LGPC AIS Committee Meeting Fri Jan 17th

The Lake George Park Commission Aquatic Invasive Species Committee will be holding a meeting Friday, January 17, 2014 from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Bolton Town Hall Main Street, Bolton Landing, NY.  The public is welcome and encouraged to attend. A meeting agenda will be posted once it becomes available.

This meeting was originally scheduled for Fri Jan 10th but was rescheduled for Fri Jan 17th – so be sure to adjust your calendar! Attending these meetings is a great way to keep up-to-date with the latest news about this new program.

REMINDER: There are two weeks left to comment on the Draft Regulations to Prohibit Aquatic Invasive Species Introductions to Lake George,  which is available online and will be available for public comment until January 24, 2014.  Please voice your support for these important regulations to protect Lake George if you have not done so already.

ALSO OF INTEREST: On Jan 8th the NYSDEC posted online for public comment its proposed regulations to help stop the transport of Aquatic Invasive Species.

The new regulations would make it illegal to launch at a DEC site without having first removed all visible plant and/or animal material and having drained all water from the boat – as well as illegal to leave from a launch site without having done the same as well.

Read the entire the proposed regulation here.
Read the press release from the DEC here.

Comments are being accepted until February 24, 2014. While Lake George will have a stricter program in place for the next 2 years, this new regulation will still help protect the lake from AIS arriving from other nearby waterbodies and is a good step forward for the rest of the state. Please be sure to voice your support for this important regulation as well.
